Finance Officer Full Time

Job Description

We are seeking a Finance Officer to support the Finance Manager in administering Payables for Mott MacDonald Blantyre Limited Finance Operations. Monitor the financial performance of projects implemented with funding from DFID, based on financial reports and narratives, and against the financial procedures agreed with Mott MacDonald.

Principal Duties/Tasks And Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Finance Manager to produce forecasts and budgets based on the estimates on the Rolling Work Plan (RWP). This includes collating activity costing and providing support for preparation of the working estimates.
• Facilitate funds transfers to and between local and foreign currency accounts of Mott MacDonald Blantyre Limited.
• Assist in carrying out timely bank transactions and, also to deposit cheques into vendors’ accounts.
• Responsible for facilitating timely monthly site returns to the UK team.
• Ensure financial records are available for regular checking and are up to date to meet deadline for submission to the UK head office.
• Provide support for payment and disbursement of cash payments e.g. per diems. To produce reconciliation of payment and supporting document for appropriate retirement.
• Follow-up on all advances, ensure that all advances are timely and appropriately settled.
• Assist with the compilation of Vendors’ list and collation of vouchers for batch processing within the financial system.
• Prepare payment vouchers, cheques, e-banking payment and ensure timely settlement of all undisputed invoices that relates to Mott MacDonald Blantyre Limited operations.
• Checking and ensuring that all payment vouchers relating to field operations meet the minimum audit requirement by checking for approvals and necessary supporting documentations.
• To assist the Finance manager in the preparation and subsequent activities, as required, for external, e.g. client, and internal audits.
• Register invoices into Lawson AP
• Upload payments into e-banking platform.
• Prepare monthly payroll for review by Finance Manager.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with all in-country programme staff.
• Carry out any other duties as may be required for delivery of the programme.

• Excellent numerate and accountancy skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chichewa
• Good IT skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to think ahead and produce accurate information.

Required Academic/professional Qualifications, Training, And Experience

• Preferably educated to degree standard or equivalent in Accounting/ Finance discipline
• Significant relevant work experience
• Ability to work as a member of a team.

Strengthening the Teaching of Primary School Mathematics is a 5-year programme that aims to improve student learning outcomes in mathematics, so girls and boys have a solid foundation in basic skills to succeed in the rest of their schooling and fulfil their potential. The programme will provide technical assistance to facilitate the revision of the mathematics curriculum for lower primary (standards 1-4), develop corresponding teaching and learning materials, design teacher training strategies (including school-based support structures), rigorously pilot the new materials and training strategies, document impact, refine the materials and training strategies, and then oversee the national scale-up. The Programme will operate from the Malawi Institute of Education (MIE), based in Zomba during its pilot phase, and thereafter will be coordinated from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Lilongwe.
