Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM)

Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) was incorporated in 1988 as a Trust Fund under the Trust Incorporation Act of 1962 to procure, store, distribute, and sell fertilizers to smallholder farmers. Its primary role was to ensure that smallholder farmers, defined as farmers who grow their crops on customary land have an opportunity to access and buy affordable fertilizer at all times.

Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following position:

JOB TITLE : DIRECTOR OF COMMERCIAL SERVICES

Responsible to : Chief Executive Officer
Responsible for : Marketing & Sales Manager

Purpose of the job

To provide efficient and effective strategic business direction and implementation for the attainment of operations and commercial strategies related to marketing and business policy, Revenue generation, procurement, logistics and Warehousing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing, monitoring and reviewing business policies, strategies, plans objectives, budgets and targets for the Fund.
  • Analysing, monitoring and evaluating business and staff performance.
  • Continually monitoring market conditions and assessing the activities of the fund and the impact that these have on smallholder farmers in order to propose interventions that ensure the fund facilitates market development and economic growth.
  • Maintaining a database of suppliers and negotiating the best deals for the organization in order to fulfil its business mandate.
  • Overseeing the maintenance and operations of all equipment, Plant and facilities for the effective performance of organizational functions.
  • Championing the implementation of improved customer care services and publicity to help attract and retain a wider customer base and confidence in the fund products and transactions.
  • Regularly preparing and submitting to the Chief Executive Officer various reports on fertilizer and farm inputs supply, marketing activities and business situation and performing progress including developing appropriate remedial interventions for the Chief Executive Officer’s consideration for action.
  • Leading in the formulation of departmental budget and prudently managing resources in compliance with acceptable financial policies and practices.
  • Representing the Fund in various meetings related to fertilizer supply and production industries to advance the interests of the fund and or Government as delegated by the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in either Supply Chain Management, OperationsManagement or Business Administration from an accredited university.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Economics or Business Administration obtained from an accredited university.
  • At least seven (7) years of work experience in a senior management position in a reputable institution.

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • Good knowledge of agricultural marketing, logistics and warehousing.
  • Good knowledge of the Malawi Government’s agricultural marketing policies and strategies, especially as they relate to the smallholder agriculture sub-sector.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Numerate and capable of planning and supervising agricultural marketing production data gathering and analysis and interpreting trends as well as recommending policy interventions.
  • Extensive experience in corporate governance and general management.
    Clear understanding of the business and legal environment of the industry.
  • Good grasp of the complex negotiations in international trade deals and contracts.
  • General experience in human resource management, administration, ICT, planning and evaluation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be a self-starter, effective team player and demonstrated a verifiable result-oriented track record.
  • Exercising a high degree of integrity, accountability and ownership in the performance of his/her duties.

Appointment and Remuneration

The successful candidate shall be offered a negotiable performance related contract with an attractive salary and benefits commensurate with seniority of the position and qualification of the candidate.
