STATUS: One-year contract subject to renewal based on performance
African Parks (AP) is a non-profit organization that secures a mandate to conserve through Public & Private Partnerships with Governments and communities for the rehabilitation and long-term management of protected areas in Africa, and here in Malawi, AP has secured this mandate for the
management of Majete Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park and Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.
An opportunity has arisen for the post of Female Wildlife Ranger/Monitor tenable at Majete Wildlife Reserve in Chikwawa.
The Wildlife Ranger/Monitor will directly report to the Head of Law Enforcement, but also work closely with the Wildlife Monitoring Department. They will be responsible for supporting the monitoring and protection of priority species within Majete Wildlife Reserve.
The focus will be on tracking and collecting data on species of special conservation concern and as such the candidate must have a strong interest in wildlife and an ability to record and report information accurately The successful candidate will also be trained to become a ranger and support the Law Enforcement Department to patrol Majete Wildlife Reserve, helping protect the Park from illegal activities.
Daily monitoring of priority species. The priority species include but are not limited to:
a) Black Rhino
b) Lion
c) Cheetah
d) Wild dog
e) Giraffe
f) Elephant
g) Pangolin
2) Deployment and management of camera traps
3) Taking photos of animals and using them to identify individuals
4) Submitting all data collected accurately using Cybertracker, or other appropriate smartphone applications
5) Updating the Monitoring Assistant daily on biodiversity findings
6) Assisting in darting, collaring and other veterinary operations.
7) Patrolling, as part of the ranger team, the protected area, which is Majete Wildlife
Reserve.
8) Ensuring that law enforcement data collected from the field is properly reported,
handled and brought to HLE/DHLE/Investigator for action e.g. GPS downloading, Cybertracker phones downloading and any other information gathered from the communities for action.
9) Assisting in the clearing and maintenance of the roads, checking and repairing fences,
and checking water reticulation at artificial water points.
10) During the fire season, you will be required to undertake firefighting and preventative
firefighting activities at times.

PREFERRED
Valid motorcycle or driver’s license and proficiency in driving vehicles with
manual transmission.
Minimum of Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), including a pass in Mathematics, Biology and Geography.
Shortlisted candidates must be available to participate in a 2-day selection process on 5th and 6th April, 2023. The selection process will include, but not be limited to; fitness assessment, English language test, comprehension test, and wildlife knowledge test.
