ADVERTISEMENT – HEAD OF INTERNAL AUDIT (M3)

The Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC) would like to invite applications from suitabl qualified Malawians for the vacant position mentioned above.

The Head of Internal Audit reports to the Chief Executive Officer on administrative issue and to the Board on technical issues. The incumbent will play a key role in evaluating and reporting on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Corporation’s internal contro systems, risk management, and governance processes through planning and performing a wide range of audit and assurance assignments.

Specifically, the Head of Internal Audit’s key responsibilities shall include but not limited to:

• Directing internal audit staff in the planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring of internal audit operations, including assisting in hiring, training, and professional development, evaluating staff, and taking corrective actions to address performance problems.
• Developing and review policies, plans, charter, systems, programs, and budgets.
• Reviewing and advise on the effectiveness and adequacy of financial and operationa systems and procedures.
• Checking compliance with internal control procedures, statutory rules, and regulations Identifying key risk areas in consultation with Management and advising or appropriate interventions
• Conducting internal and investigative audits in liaison with relevant stakeholders and prepare reports for the Board.
• Reviewing management accounts for errors and completeness.
• Collaborating with external auditors on audit matters.
• Conducting audits of financial systems, stores, and personnel records as may be required.
• Developing and maintain the Risk Register for the Corporation.
• Performing risk assessments and establish the Corporation’s tolerance for risk.
• Reviewing the Corporation’s current compliance policies and procedures to identify areas of improvement.
• Drafting new and update existing internal risk and compliance policies so that they match industry standards.
• Maintaining records of compliance practices.
• Establishing relationships with important external bodies and stay up-to-date on the changes in industry requirements and all relevant regulations.
• Organizing workshops and training sessions to educate and update employees on the organization’s compliance policies, regulations, and processes.
• Preparing risk management reports for top-level management based on internal reviews and advise the executives on risk mitigation measures and implementation of adequate compliance programs.
• Sourcing, manage, and update the Corporation’s risk management software.
  Following up on audit queries to ensure audit observations and recommendations are properly and adequately addressed.

2. ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

• Degree in Accounting or Auditing plus professional qualification at Chartered Accountant level.
• Good working knowledge of auditing software, Internal Auditing Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSS), risk-based audit methodologies, policies, and standards.
• Those with knowledge of data analytical software including SAGE Evolution will have an added advantage.
• Four years ‘experience pertaining to internal and external audit environments. Computer literate.
