The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of
Washington’s Department of Global Health that works in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco. I-TECH has projects in more than 20 countries, and its worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations, medical facilities, and other partners to support efficient, well-ordered health care systems that provide
high quality care to all citizens. I-TECH Malawi’s HIV Surveillance for Epidemic Control project focuses on provision of comprehensive and cost-effective support for capacity building and implementation of national surveillance systems and the generation of high-quality
epidemiological data collected in accordance with international standards.
I-TECH Malawi wishes to recruit highly qualified and experienced persons to fill the following posts.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs (HRH) will provide a strategic leadership role as a member of the Senior Management Team. This position will provide oversight and management of I-TECH Malawi programs and apply technical expertise and leadership to guide the strategic direction of program activities. The Director of Programs will manage a comprehensive health portfolio and will promote programmatic implementation, ensure high quality program deliverables and oversee a wide range of internal and external partnerships. This position will provide oversight of program expenditure of funds, compliance with regulations and cope with rapid changes in both funding and programmatic direction as dictated by the funder, and effectively use available resources to meet those expectations.
The Director of Programs will be responsible for developing new initiatives and coordinating resource
mobilization efforts. The position will provide oversight for the implementation of I-TECH’s scope of work and supervisory support to seconded Technical Assistants and central office program staff.
The Director of Programs will be based in Lilongwe, report to the Executive Director, work closely with the HRH technical teams, and collaborate with the Seattle-based team.
Program Management, Implementation and Administration (30%): Success is measured by the
extent to which the Director of Programs applies I-TECH’s Management Practices to assure programs
are planned and implemented with high quality, on time, and within budget. The Director of Programs will ensure the following activities are accomplished:
This position is based at the I-TECH Malawi Country Office. The Director of Programs requires frequent participation in late evening telephone conference calls in order to accommodate time zone difference between Malawi and I-TECH Headquarters in Seattle
