Internal Control Officer Full Time

Internal Control Officer

Based at Head Office in Blantyre and reporting to the Head of Risk, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing of controls within Branches, Agencies, CPC and cashiering centres and ensuring that staff understand operational procedures as well as the general control environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analysing existing controls, recommend improvements, propose and follow-up related implementation plans.
• Evaluate internal controls of the Bank and identify shortcomings and recommend suitable changes to management.
• Document existing practices, recommend and put in place improvements.
• Responsible for integrity checks and analysing the full range of evidence and information available to identify risks and management control actions and draw well thought out reasoned conclusions.
• Issue assurance on all issues closed and evidence submitted by various functions.
• Provide education and recommend training as appropriate for staff to build awareness and understanding on risk management and internal control within the Bank.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely reports and statistics to management on the status of the control environment.
• Familiarize staff with priorities and issues of the Bank and take these into account, as appropriate, in the risk management process.
• Maintain an Issue Tracking and closure process to ensure that all issues are logged, tracked, and closed.
• Track all open observations and perform desktop reviews or on-site testing of remedial actions (and supporting documentation) implemented to address reported deficiencies.
• Review branch ambiance and physical security.
  Conduct end to end process review as per procedures within business units on an on-going basis with a focus on enhancing the controls.
• Propose process enhancements and efficiencies to Management.
• Product risk assessments for all new products before launch.
• Conduct periodic product risk assessment for all existing products.
• Review and recommend product controls to ensure effectiveness of the controls.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in banking. (Those with accounting and audit background have an added advantage)
• Knowledge of Bank operations.
• Ability to analyse the risks involved in the bank’s operations and make independent judgments as to whether the levels of controls and plans are commensurate with the identified risks.
• Must be independent and capable of exercising sense of freedom to think and act guided by the bank guidelines and procedures.
