The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) is a University and Centre of Excellence in health education, research, and innovation whose mission is ‘to advance knowledge, professional competencies, skills, and innovations in health sciences through high-quality student-centred and innovative education and research that responds to and influences the global/national policy, health, and development needs in an efficient, sustainable, and result-oriented manner’.
KUHeS carried out a Functional Review process, which resulted into a new Organisational Structure and Staff Establishment. Following the approval of the Staff Establishment and Organisational Structure by Government, KUHeS conducted a placement exercise for existing employees, but there were a substantial number of key positions that were not filled. KUHeS would like to fill some of these vacant positions as part of the Functional Review implementation process.

To provide strategic and administrative leadership to the TLDC to ensure University-wide high-quality teaching, learning and assessments in line with quality curricula and enhancing student academic success.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Providing leadership in the development and implementation of TLDC strategic plans, programmes and activities in alignment with KUHeS strategic plans;
Leading and supporting TLDC staff in the quest to ensure best practices in teaching and learning throughout KUHeS;
Leading the development and monitoring facilitation of short courses and other activities designed to enhance pedagogical skills, curriculum development and student success;
Providing timely and thorough communication of activities, requests, policies and practices to clients;
Stimulating student-centered teaching and learning culture among faculty members throughout KUHeS;
Promoting a culture of reflective practice in HP education;
Establishing and strengthening partnerships and coordinating institutional teaching and learning information exchanges with other institutions;
Conducting outreach and research in HP education and promoting research among TLDC staff;
Mobilizing resources for TLDC and managing their effective and efficient utilization;
Advising and leading in resolving problems and issues affecting teaching and learning at all levels within the KUHeS, and recommending evidence-based remedial measures;
Monitoring and evaluating the Teaching and Learning Development Support Centre performance;
Determining strategies and processes to enhance the Teaching and Learning in KUHeS;
Participating in marketing and promoting TLDC services both within and outside KUHeS.;
Preparing and submitting periodic performance reports to relevant stakeholders;
Providing advice on teaching and learning policy for KUHeS;
Engage in teaching, consultancy and outreach activities.
Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience
PhD in a Health Professions Education/Medical Education/Nursing Education or similar field;
2 years’ work experience of coordinating and leading faculty development in a health professions education setting;
7 years’ teaching experience at University level;
Leadership training from recognized institution.
QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT
7. CHIEF QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER (1 POSITION)

Job purpose
To ensure compliance to quality standards and requirements of provision of services across all systems in the University.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Developing, reviewing, implementing and monitoring quality assurance and enhancement policies, plans, programmes, strategies, procedures including budgets;
Leading the development of quality management and academic regulatory frameworks;
Facilitating and enforcing compliance with internal and external quality assurance standards, regulatory, professional bodies and legal frameworks;
Developing, reviewing and implementing schedule of cycles for academic programmes in liaison with Executive Deans;
Initiating and coordinating quality assurance audits;
Mobilizing resources and monitoring its effective, efficient and economic utilization;
Developing and maintaining partnership with government, industry and other relevant institutions, development partners and international communities;
Initiating and coordinating institutional assessments, outreach programmes and tracer studies;
Preparing reports;
Collating and distributing information from regulatory bodies (e.g. The National Council for Higher Education and other relevant professional bodies) and monitoring quality compliance by the University;
Establishing and communicating a University calendar to be followed in the internal monitoring processes;
Monitoring and fostering efficient utilization of resources in the department;
Assisting in organizing and contributing to the University inductions for quality assurance and any other associated seminars/workshops that may be arranged from time to time;
Appraising and mentoring staff.
Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience
Master’s Degrees in Health Professions Education, Education Management or any relevant field;
7 years’ work experience in the field of quality assurance.
LEGAL SERVICES DIVISION
8. ASSISTANT REGISTRAR (LEGAL)
Grade : KU5
Department : Registry Services Directorate
Responsible to : Registrar
Responsible for : Senior Legal Services Officer
Purpose of the Job
To oversee and provide legal representation and advisory services to the University
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Participating in developing and reviewing policies, plans, strategies, systems, procedures and regulations;
Conducting litigations initiated by and against the University before the appropriate courts in close coordination with the concerned function;
Proactively resolving legal issues and providing solutions to avoid litigation;
Setting up systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements;
Liaising with outsourced legal service providers in the discharge of their obligations;
Guiding the University in interpretation of laws regarding all its functions;
Providing legal advice to University management and staff on official matters;
Initiating and pursuing legal proceedings as required;
Preparing cases for submission to outsourced legal service providers;
Drafting, vetting and/or reviewing legal letters, contracts and agreements;
Monitoring legal obligations under agreements;
Producing relevant reports;
Maintaining a database of statuses of all court matters;
Representing the university at arbitration and mediation;
Participating in relevant committee meetings;
Managing institutional risks;
Appraising and mentoring staff.
Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience
Master’s degree in Law or related qualification;
Registered as a legal practitioner in Malawi.
5 years’ relevant experience.
9. SENIOR LEGAL SERVICES OFFICER
Grade : KU7
Department : Registry Services Directorate
Responsible to : Assistant Registrar (Legal)
Purpose of the Job
To provide legal services

ESTATES DIVISION
10. ASSISTANT REGISTRAR (ESTATES) – (1 POSITION)

Job Purpose
To manage estates development and maintenance services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing leadership in the development and maintenance of estates;
Initiating, implementing, monitoring and reviewing estates development and maintenance policies, plans, strategies, systems, procedures and regulations;
Providing advisory services related to Estates development and maintenance to line managers;
Dealing with tenancy and leasehold matters;
Ensuring quality control of infrastructure development and maintenance works;
Monitoring implementation of estates development projects;
Managing and maintaining estates records;
Assessing and certifying completed works;
Servicing relevant committees;
Preparing product specifications and Terms of reference for construction works and services;
Preparing bill of quantities for budget estimates for estates development and maintenance works;
Preparing infrastructure and maintenance reports;
Managing relationship with external stakeholders
Preparing Estates reports;
Initiating aesthetic ways of face lifting the existing built facilities;
Monitoring and evaluating outsourced estates related services;
Appraising and mentoring staff.
Minimum Education, Qualification and Experience
Masters’ degree in in Quantity Surveying or Architecture or other relevant fields;
5 years’ experience in the relevant field;
Professional certification with relevant professional body.
