Librarian Full Time

St John of God College of Health Sciences is an integral part of Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Malawi. The College provides university-level training in Bachelor of Science in Mental Health-Psychiatric Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine (Mental Health), Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Psychotherapy, and Diploma in Clinical Medicine. The institution is looking for suitable candidates to fill the following posts:

LIBRARIAN

The position

Under the general supervision of the College Principal, the Librarian will be responsible for the management of library and information services through planning, organizing, monitoring, coordinating, and budgeting. This includes the formulation of yearly plans of the college library in accordance with laid down Service policies and ensuring that they are attained. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching basic courses such as ICT, Language, and communication.

Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);

• Providing technical advice on library and information services to College Management, head of departments and users
• Develop, organize, and maintain library collections to meet the demands of specific user groups
  Manage print and electronic information resources
• Select, order, catalog and classify relevant library and information resources
• Ensure that the College maintains an up-to-date publications white-list and research database to guide staff in research and publications.
• Maintain records and prepare statistical and analytical reports
• Assist users in locating specific library and information resources
• Stay current with new trends and developments in library and information resources and share the knowledge to faculty members, students and other library users
• Train users in the discovery and management of information resources
• Respond rapidly and reliably to information requests through the use of all appropriate resources
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations including copyright in connection with use of library materials and resources.
• Coordinating orientation sessions for library users.

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences or any related fields obtained from a reputable and accredited institution of higher learning recognised by the National Council for Higher Education.
• Minimum of three years of working experience
• Membership in professional bodies such as the Malawi Library Association (MALA).
• Ability to use computerised Library and Information Management Systems
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Those with publication record will have an added advantage.
