INTRODUCTION
The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA), established by the Communications Act (Cap 68:01), is mandated to regulate and facilitate universal communication services in Malawi. In the fulfillment of this mandate, MACRA has deliberate programmes intended at ensuring communication services are universal.
In line with Government’s digitalization drive, MACRA has embarked on a programme of connecting schools to broadband services for the furthering of digital skills from the education system. MACRA has set aside funds to construct 120 purpose-built ICT laboratories in schools in this 2024 – 2025 financial year as one partner to the Ministry of Education in the drive to connect all schools in Malawi.
The Authority will equip the laboratories with ICT equipment, connect the laboratories to the internet, provides access to digital content and facilitate digital skills training. The purpose-built ICT laboratories will open opportunities for the schools and the communities in areas that are around these digital hubs.
The Authority, therefore, in collaboration with the Technical, Entrepreneurial, and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA), is looking for interested artisans in the required trades to be considered for the construction of ICT laboratories across different districts in Malawi.
